i’m like a hippie that hates hippies
— kirby bukowskihere’s a loop that turned into more of a beat.
way over produced, but still hella-fun.
thoughts?
37this guitar loop has been with me for a long time now and i’ve been waiting to put some words to it. i wrote a short poem tonight and i thought it fit pretty well. i still need a second verse and bridge, but i like it in its short form too. it’s really about as long as any song needs to be, the rest is fluff and ear candy. i obviously only sort of mean that.
it’s called ‘still me’ and it goes out to adam and mitch
36this is a song i’ve had for a little while. im glad i finally made a rendition of it and i’m excited for many more.
it’s one of the first folky songs i’ve written and although it’s not the favorite of my songs, it stands on its own little pedestal.
i could talk a whole lot about the chord progressions, lyrics and recording choices, but i’ll let this one stand on its own. let me know if you want any specifics.
60is next week. i’m in an odd middle place because i’m taking two more classes may+june, but i’m completely done with my major, so it’s a very awkward mix of being done and not being done.
let’s go time - fly!
i have been writing so much music lately which feels awesome, i just wish i had more of an end goal.
kelsey encouraged i do a ‘song of the day’ which could be anything from a chord to a full on song, but that’s been a little bit daunting, largely because i will lay down ideas, but i know that they aren’t finished. I have a hard time wanting to show things that are unfinished, or at least are closer to their final state.
for the mean time, i’m at least trying to encourage myself more to put whatever i can out there, just so it’s doing something.
here’s a chord progression which reminds me alot of movie music. that may be becuase the baby in the background while i was recording it was actually making it sound more dramatic, but i think it’s more than that. it’s just an idea though that i could see going in 100 different directions.
Em9 - Gmaj7add6 - Cmaj7sus2 - Bm7 - G7
i like that the progression doesn’t really go anywhere during the first half; i think that’s what makes it so relaxing.
31missin’ some eroica right now. good times…
this is just kind of random. i was playing guitar this morning, and i ended up going back to this old end-of-ska-rocket-days song that never really got published or recorded anywhere. mix wrote the lyrics and i wrote the music, but it was written after we recorded our cd, so it was only performed at a couple shows. i thought i had a scratch recording of it, and low and behold i did!
it was recorded with on sm58 in the middle of my old basement, and we only had one horn (mix on sax) that day, and the song isn’t even complete (the actual ending was much different, and better, including a sweet guitar solo). i did the best i could with the mix, but you get the idea anyways.
in my opinion one of the most mature songs we wrote (duh, it was the last one), and i’m sad it was never properly recorded. anycase, here’s what i got!

this is one of my favorite pictures in a while. i know it’s not the greatest picture traditionally, but it really struck a chord with me for whatever reason.
kelsey took it outside of sante fe this past thanksgiving.
1 yr ago! snowy adventure to the poor house at night. i’m super excited that i get to go to texas for christmas this year.
